How to Prevent Wedge Anchor Bolt Dimension Tolerance Exclusions and Ensure Secure Anchoring

In critical areas such as building reinforcement, curtain wall installation, and equipment foundation anchoring, the reliability of machine-repaired anchor bolts is directly related to the safety of the overall structure. However, if you unfortunately purchase products with substandard dimensions and tolerances, at best, they can cause installation failures, resulting in inadequate screwing and hammering, which wastes time and effort; at worst, they can lead to insufficient anchor depth and loose contact, posing significant safety hazards. So, how can buyers effectively avoid this problem?

Clearly identify the source and require wedge anchor through bolt suppliers to provide detailed technical information.

Prevention is better than cure. Before placing an wedge anchor order, buyers should clearly state their technical delivery requirements to suppliers; this is the foundation of all quality assurance work. The key document is a dimensional drawing with detailed tolerance ranges.

A qualified drawing should not only include a few basic dimensions but must clearly indicate the allowable deviations (tolerances) for all key dimensions. For example:

Threaded section: Tolerances for major, pitch, and minor diameters, as well as pitch tolerance.

Rod section: Tolerances for rod diameter.

Accessories: Tolerances for inner and outer diameters and thickness of nuts and washers.

Critical lengths: Deviations in overall length, thread length, and anchor depth.

Implementation: Purchasers must conduct strict incoming material inspection (IQC)

Upon arrival at the factory, goods must not be put directly into the production line. The quality control department (IQC) must conduct a comprehensive dimensional tolerance inspection using specialized tools.

Inspection tools: Commonly used tools include digital calipers (for measuring various lengths, outer and inner diameters), micrometers (for more precise diameter measurements), and the crucial thread go/no-go gauges.

Inspection Methods:

General Dimension Inspection: Use calipers to sample and measure each dimension on the drawing to ensure it falls within the tolerance band.

Specific Thread Inspection: This is of paramount importance. Use go/no-go gauges to inspect the threads—go gauges must smoothly thread through the entire thread length, while no-go gauges should only thread in 2-3 turns. If the go gauge does not pass, it means the bolt is too large and difficult to install; if the stop gauge passes, it means the thread is too small, the strength is insufficient, and the connection will become loose.
